    Australia Day Now and Then

    Category - News

This time last year Sea Circus was not born yet.

Despite the best intentions, we were still building the place. Australia Day 2010 was the circus *baby shower*; on 26/1/10 we had our first long table dinner under the Bali big top. Family and friends flew over to taste the food and christen the space that would become Sea Circus.

This year and the Circus tent was packed to the rafters [literally]. We hosted our first acoustic session, which rocked. Our friend – jonas genberg – played a set of awesome originals as well as some surprise and hugely appreciated Pearl Jam, Rihanna, Kings of Leon and some classic Elvis. Too good.

Josh made an incredible effort for his nation’s day… getting in meat pies, sausage rolls, snag sangers and other carnivorous delights. Charlie got [and ate most of] the lamingtons. There was beer and there were beats. Herdy spent most of the day before making a 23 hour ‘Australia Day Epic’ playlist. And boy was it epic. Well done DJ Herds. And thank you for introducing all of us non-aussies to the likes of John Farnham, Hunters & Collectors and Peter Allen. Immense.

Apparently Australian music makes people a little raucous. Or maybe that’s the beer. Or the australians. Anyhoo, it got a little loose. Boys made friends with girls. Girls made friends with tables. The dancing was all time. The best bit, however, was probably the girl who hung upside down from the rafters and skulled a beer. Skills. Wow..never in our wildest dreams did we imagine the circus acts we would witness within these hallowed walls.

Yep, within the turn of one earth a lot has changed for Sea Circus. So we thought we’d get a little nostalgic and do a pictorial compare and contrast. Australia Day 2010 / 2011.
